Points Update prior to Final race of 2008
Going into the last race of the 2008 series, the fight for top positions in both classes is a tight
and intriguing one…
Leading class 1400, #1428 John Vaughn, who’s been a terror in the field all season,
leads the series with 100 points, which includes a commanding 37 point lead over 2nd place. That 2nd place
belongs to #1401 of Danny Giannini. Giannini has an 8 point lead over 3rd place. The intriguing battle of
the class though, seems to lie between the 4th place of #1404 Randy Shields and 5th place of #1429 Dan
Vance, leading by a mere 1 point.
Class 1450 racers have delivered an incredible battle the entire season, with the top 4 overall finishing
positions all being questionable going into the last event. Holding down 1st place is #1456 Nicolette Dunn
in her rookie season, leading with 167 points and a comfortable 23 point lead over 2nd place.
Her friend and fellow female driver, #1451Melissa Thornton has battled all season to remain in 2nd place
and now has a 2 point lead over 3rd place, with 146 points. The final event will prove critical for 3rd
place driver #1485 Adam Filbin, in determining whether he can thwart Melissa’s efforts for 2nd place,
or at least still manage to keep his substantial points lead over 4th and 5th place racers. In order to
capture 2nd place, Adam will have to finish at least 2 positions ahead of Melissa, providing all of us
spectators and supporters with enough anxiety to last for weeks. It’s been quite a fight between these
two, and neither one is appearing to give an inch going into the last race.
The 4th place position is really anyone’s guess with the next 3 racers separated by only 9 points. #1499
Steve Herrera, BAP 1st place winner and the top leaf-sprung truck, holds onto 4th place, with #1483
Justin Hampton right behind him in 5th. Hampton proved to be a threat to the entire class when he
seemingly came out of nowhere to take 3rd place at Event #2, Ridgecrest race. However, with a
heartbreaking DNF at the Night Race, Hampton will have to put the pressure on Herrera in order to gain
any ground.
In 6th place is #1478, Andy Stephens driving his Ford Explorer. Andy has been fast and consistent all
season and with a strong finish on New Years Eve, he may find himself in the top 5. In 7th place is the
leaf sprung truck of #1490 Brian Groves. Brian is holding in there and can very well place highly in the
overall points if he does well at Event #4.
08’ Awards Ceremony

Battle at Primm race weekend on February 14th at 7:00PM in Primm NV at Battelle’s inside Buffalo Bills
Hotel/Casino. More information will be posted soon…
