Dana 44 TTB Conversion & Long Travel Guide

The Dana 44 Twin Traction Beam (TTB) is the strongest factory I-beam front axle Ford used in 4WD trucks and SUVs. Giant Motorsports builds conversion kits to upgrade weaker Dana 28/35 setups to Dana 44 TTB, and custom long-travel TTB beams for maximum desert performance.

What Is Dana 44 TTB?

The Dana 44 TTB (Twin Traction Beam) is Ford’s 4WD independent front suspension system — found in 1980-1996 Broncos, F-150s, and 1986-1997 Rangers and Explorers. Unlike the rear-wheel-drive twin I-beam, the TTB includes a front differential and CV axles, giving you 4WD capability with independent front suspension.

The stock Dana 44 TTB is substantially stronger than the Dana 28 or Dana 35 found in earlier Rangers and Explorers. The Dana 35 in particular is notorious for three distinct spindle failure modes under hard use — which is exactly what the Giant Motorsports TTB conversion kit eliminates.

Dana 44 TTB Conversion Kit

If your Ranger or Explorer came with a Dana 28 or Dana 35 front axle, this conversion upgrades you to the factory Dana 44 TTB setup using genuine Ford Dana 44 beams, spindles, and axles. Eliminates all three known Dana 35 spindle failure modes.

TTB Steering

Extended TTB setups require corrected steering geometry. Giant Motorsports crossover and single-swing steering arms are designed to eliminate bump steer on both 4WD and 2WD extended I-beam setups.
