Bypass shocks run hot during aggressive off-road and desert race use — oil temperature inside the shock body climbs significantly during sustained high-speed driving, especially in sections with extended whoops or rough terrain. Standard shock oil thins as temperature increases, which changes damping characteristics exactly when consistent performance matters most.
Neo Synthetic 5W shock oil is formulated to maintain consistent viscosity at elevated temperatures. It will not thin out mid-race the way mineral-based oils do, which means the bypass shock continues to behave the way it was valved rather than getting progressively softer as the oil heats up.
